ANCOP is short for “Answering the Cry of the Poor”. It is a social ministry under Couples For Christ, an international organization that started in the Philippines in 1981. Through holistic programs for shelter, child education, and humanitarian relief, ANCOP aims to restore the poor’s hope and dignity, organizing them into sustainable and self-reliant communities through livelihood assistance, values formation and community development. It is currently operating in the Philippines and South America, and gearing up for Central America.
ANCOP USA shares something in common with Guadalupe Roastery: the commitment to bring glad tidings to the poor and marginalized, including communities whose very lives revolve around producing top quality coffee like Guadalupe Roastery’s. In particular, ANCOP USA recognizes the urgent need to help these poor families in mountainous rural Nicaragua to build a school for their children to combat the plummeting literacy rates, education being one of the core programs of ANCOP. ANCOP is also dedicated to help poor communities get better access to health care and humanitarian aid, which is also direly needed in these tumultuous times in Nicaragua. By making Guadalupe Roastery coffee a part of ANCOP’s way of life, ANCOP helps provide Nicaraguan farmers’ families opportunities to escape from the vicious cycle of poverty through sustainable programs to transform them into self-reliant and productive communities.
ANCOP USA is part of a growing worldwide network of missionaries who eagerly contribute towards doing corporal works of mercy. When ANCOP members and partners subscribe to the Guadalupe Roastery Coffee Club, they not only get to enjoy the best coffee in the world, but they also help a child to break free from the chains of illiteracy, a family to bring nutritious food to their table, and a community to build their capacity for a better future. Proceeds go towards building schools and providing educational scholarships for the children, a coffee cooperative to help coffee farmers with their production and post-harvest needs, and providing better access to health care. It is a rare opportunity to simply hold in one’s hands the power for positive change, but now anyone can —in a steaming hot cup of the world’s best coffee. What other well-loved beverage can do that?
